 故事发生在1977年2月8日，围绕一名44岁的前房地产开发商Tony Kiritsis展开。他用枪劫持了贷款公司总裁Richard O. Hall，并在其身上绑了一个“死亡开关”，以此胁迫这位总裁在几近零度的天气里当着警察和记者的面穿过市中心的街道。
