改编自永井纱耶子的同名小说，本作是以江户歌舞伎町轰动一时的事件为背景的时代剧。某个雪夜，歌舞伎剧场附近发生美少年菊之助成功复仇的故事。事件因多人目睹而被传为美谈，但一年半后，自称菊之助亲属的武士加濑总一郎造访剧场，声称“想知道复仇始末”。随着相关者证词逐渐揭露真相，复仇背后隐藏的秘密浮出水面。
